Title: Prioritizing Reviewing Applications
Tools Used in Development: Canva
Time in Development: 4 hours
Client: The Ripple Center
Overview: This job aid gives step-by-step instructions for prioritizing the weekly email from The Ripple Center that contains that week’s assigned applications to review.
Challenge: Each week of application review season at 12 PM EST, The Ripple Center sends emails to its Application Committee members containing that week’s assigned applications. Members tend to not have very effective systems in place for managing their volunteer duties, though, and this email is often missed and lost.
Solution: This job aid breaks down the process for prioritizing the weekly email into four steps. In table form, it describes how to perform each of those steps in each of the three major email platforms (Gmail, Outlook, and Apple Mail). It then presents four tips for scheduling application reviewing time in a common infographic format.
Title: Ripple Admissions Process
Tools Used in Development: Canva, Lectora
Time in Development: 2 hours
Client: The Ripple Center
Overview: This animated infographic illustrates the process for reviewing Fellowship applications that Admissions Committee members must complete each week.
Challenge: The Ripple Center's previous Admissions Committee training consisted of a slide deck dominated by text, including its description of the application review process. Principle #8 (the Modality Principle) of Mayer's 12 Principles of Multimedia holds that people learn better when multiple modalities of media combine to deliver a message. While the overabundance of text in the training was certainly not the only reason committee members struggled with working independently, promptly, and consistently, it was likely a contributing factor.
Solution: In my eLearning course, the content on the application review process is part of a mini-module on the entire Fellow selection process. Learners engage with videos, critical text, and an interactive activity to investigate the rest of the process. Further diversifying the modalities of media, an infographic here for the application review process combines text and graphics to elegantly communicate the essential information to the learners. Using Lectora's animation functions, the elements appear in succession to increase engagement and prevent information overload.
